PART-TIME KENNEL STAFF
Kennel Attendant/Dog Care Staff
Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue has an opening for a part-time kennel worker to join our kennel team. Our Kennel workers are responsible for ensuring the health, comfort and safety of all of our rescue dogs. We are seeking a compassionate person who enjoys working with both people and animals alike. *This position requires flexible day time and evening hours including weekends and holidays.
Duties:
Cleaning kennels
Housekeeping duties – kitchen, dish washing, trash, recyclables, disposing of animal waste, laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, and yard clean up.
Taking care of dogs – feeding, exercising, and provide enrichment
Transporting dogs locally.
Assist fellow employees and other departments as needed.
Follow safety and sanitation protocol.
Uphold YGRR policies and procedures.
Skills and Experience:
Positive reinforcement training experience preferred.
Be willing to work hard and get dirty – this job is physically demanding.
Have a basic understanding of dog language, handling, health, etc.
Be able to dispense medications and treatments to dogs with health issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
1-2 years previous experience working with dogs required (other than your own personal pets) Must be able to work with all dogs, including those with health concerns/conditions as well as behavior conditions.
2 years customer service experience.
Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, positive, personable, upbeat, and energetic, takes initiative, and uses tact and diplomacy.
Resourceful, roll up the sleeves attitude. The successful candidate must have the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently and enthusiastically demonstrate flexibility to persist until goals are achieved.
Knowledgeable of breeds, care giving, behaviors and characteristics of animals.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
Computer literate: Microsoft Office, Internet, PetPoint shelter software, Google docs and mail.
Strong organizational skills required.
Ability to professionally advocate YGRR position on issues.
Physical and Job Requirements:
Must be able to perform full range of movement: stretching, bending, squatting, climbing, lifting, etc.
Valid driver’s license with access to transportation to travel on organization business.
Ability to drive a van/commercial vehicle.
Ability to effectively interact with and handle all dogs. Be able to handle dogs of all sizes, breeds, temperament, etc.
Effectively handle all dogs with a variety of temperaments.
Spend an extended period of time outdoors in all weather, including extreme heat and cold.
Must able to lift 50 pounds or more.
Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule: includes weekends, night and holiday work.
