Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue is a New England organization founded in 1985 by Joan Puglia and Susan Foster, who had a dream and the tenacity to make it a reality. YGRR was established because the popularity of the breed was resulting in more and more Goldens ending up in shelters and pounds. During the organization's formative years, lack of money was a critical problem. Sympathetic veterinarians - including those at Angell Memorial Hospital and Tufts Vet. School - provided discounted services. In 1997 YGRR established the first permanent shelter for Golden Retrievers in the nation - "Riverview". |
