Parker, YGRR #4333 |

Parker is a typical one-and-a-half-year-old adolescent. This sixty-five pound Golden boy is just as sweet as they come! His original owners called YGRR when they realized they did not have enough time to devote to their energetic boy. Parker had lived with two children and this lively Golden thrived on human attention. His previous owners described him as a sweet puppy with a lot of energy!
Parker was brought to the YGRR veterinarian where he was found to be a healthy young Golden. He came to Riverview and was very playful with the other Goldens in residence. Parker was a fine resident, clean and respectful, and quickly blossomed with the consistent handling he received. He was found to be a delightful dog during his short stay.
The adoption coordinator knew Parker needed a home where he would receive lots of love, exercise and attention. An adoptive family who was hoping to adopt a younger dog was invited to meet Parker. This couple had successfully rescued many dogs through the course of their lifetime. They had a wonderful time raising their furry friends and wanted to repeat the experience with another young Golden. The YGRR home visitor described them as a kind family who knew how to treat a dog with a huge yard and lots of love to give --perfect for Parker! All went very well at the adoption appointment and Parker now has plenty of love and the attention he deserves!

Boomer, YGRR #4305
Boom-Boom Boomer and his nine brothers and sisters have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. This summer at the fragile age of four weeks, Boomer (with his nine young siblings, eleven-year old Golden mother, Brandy, and another adult golden) was surrendered to YGRR. Their distraught owner called the hotline saying she could no longer keep her dogs because of health issues and pregnancy. She wanted to relinquish the dogs as soon as possible. She reported that the dogs had only lived outdoors with access to an unfinished basement and had never left her property. She also said that the father of the litter was a Westhighland Terrier! |
Upon surrender, it was determined Boomer, his mother, and littermates were carrying a heavy load of roundworms. The entire family was given medication and treatment. Although his mother, Brandy, was very thin and had little milk, she was attentive to the puppies and very, very sweet. Under the thoughtful direction of YGRR's veterinarian, a long term medical care program was arranged for this special golden family which included vaccinations, neutering/spaying, and tattooing.
Boomer and his littermates got a first-rate start at YGRR. He and the other puppies were vigilantly raised under the skillful and caring supervision of Sue, YGRR's Kennel Manager. In fact, they received care around-the-clock! Indeed, whelping and raising puppies is no easy task. It is a full-time job all by itself! Straight away a plan was implemented for socialization of Boomer, his mother, and littermates. And the Riverview team immediately rallied behind Sue and fell in love with the puppies.
A dog savvy adopter was called who has a long history with the Golden Retriever breed. This unique person has two other rescue goldens. She understood the time commitment and had the knack to provide a loving and nurturing new, forever home. This adopter was ready for puppy-hood and the task of raising an energetic boy. Her home situation and the sweet temperament of her two Goldens were just the right match for Boomer!
All your furry, golden friends here at Riverview want to thank you for your generous donations, contributions, and unending support of YGRR. On their behalf, Happy Thanksgiving! |

Chad, YGRR #4303
Say hello to Charming Chad. It is hard to believe that this delightful fellow was picked up as a stray, wandering the streets of a New England city. This red, senior boy was given an approximate age of eight by the animal control officer who found him. Although Chad was held for a month, no one came forward to claim him. The animal control officer, who had grown very fond of Chad, called YGRR knowing we would place him in a loving forever home.
Chad was brought to the YGRR veterinarian where he was given a complete geriatric workup. Chad was in need of being neutered and tattooed. Upon examination he was found to have skin and ear infections. So, he was placed on a course of antibiotics and ear medication to treat these issues. Several skin masses were also noted and after consult with a veterinary pathologist, these were removed. Finally, Chad came to Riverview and settled into the kennel. |
Chad quickly became a favorite of the staff. This confident old dog was always friendly and interested in social contact! A senior couple interested in adopting a senior boy was called. This special pair knows the responsibility of dog ownership. They have lots of time and lots of love to give a new dog. Chad’s new owners immediately recognized what a sweet and gentle Golden boy he was. Chad went to his new home as happy as could be. And his family has already contacted YGRR to say they think he was an excellent match! That’s our Charming Chad! |

Holly, YGRR #4299
Ten-year-old Holly was surrendered to YGRR due to a divorce situation. Her original owners were unable to keep her because they were in the midst of selling their house and could not ensure an environment of stability. Holly's family had owned her since she was a puppy and wished only the best for her. Her former family felt they could not predict how her life would change given her new living arrangements. She was fondly described as a "happy girl."
Holly was brought to the YGRR veterinarian where she was given a thorough examination. She was tattooed, given a dentistry, had a few superficial growths removed, and brought up-to-date on her vaccinations. Overall, her health was good for an older girl; however she was a bit pudgy. So, while at YGRR she was placed on a healthy diet. She soon shed those few "extra" pounds and felt much better. The staff found Holly to be a happy, easy-going girl who loved attention. She was always wagging her tail and got along well with everyone! |
An adopter was called whose profile seemed to gel with this senior girl's personality. When the adopter met "Happy Holly" he thought she was just wonderful! She has now had some time to get acquainted with her new owner. Recently he called to report how much he adores Holly and that she is just "perfect." Happy Holly fits in quite easily in her peaceful home. Holly and her new owner are elated with each other! A happy (new) beginning for Happy Holly! |
