Bobby, YGRR #4759 |
Happily Adopted! |
Bobby was a 9-year-old, unneutered male surrendered to YGRR because his owner wanted to travel more. We were told that he had received his rabies vaccination, required by law, but seldom went to the veterinarian. Shockingly, he only weighed 39 pounds when he arrived at the YGRR veterinarian. Upon exam, there was no underlying medical reason found for Bobby to be emaciated. It was concluded he had simply not been fed. Further tests showed he was severely hypothyroid and had a sparse coat and no hair on his tail. Bobby was placed on Soloxine for his hypothyroid disease and is slowly put on weight. It took time to determine how much damage was done neurologically and physically by his starvation. Over the next four months, Bobby's fur began growing back and he started to put on weight. He became more confident and happy. Finally, the day came when his bloodwork looked good and he was ready to go to his new home. A young couple who wanted to adopt a senior was called to meet Bobby. Everything went just great at the appointment and Bobby finally went to a home where he would receive the proper care.

Duke, YGRR #4743 (left) and Max |
Happily Adopted! |
Twelve-year-old Duke now enjoys the good life in his new adoptive home. Duke lived outside in a doghouse his whole life. He wore an invisible fence collar but frequently broke through the system. His family had to move because of financial issues and could not take Duke. Duke was brought to the YGRR veterinarian where he was treated for Lyme disease, pyoderma and ear infections. Bloodwork showed that Duke was hypothyroid so he was started on Soloxine. He had a number of growths removed and was given a much needed dentistry. Duke came to Riverview to recuperate and was found to be a very happy, easygoing Golden boy. He thought the kennel was just great! We needed to find an experienced Golden owner who could deal with and stay ahead of Duke's skin issues. And so we did! Duke now lives with his new "parents" and takes two long walks each day with his new "brother" Max and "Sister" Annie. His adopters couldn't be happier with Duke and, judging from the photo, Duke feels the same way!
