Following are descriptions of the important volunteer jobs available
to YGRR members. We welcome your support of our program through membership
and through your participation as a volunteer. Volunteers are the backbone
and foundation of YGRR. The donation of your professional skills is also
welcome!
Please Note: Volunteer assignments are tracked through our membership
data base, so YGRR membership is necessary in order to make sure your
volunteer talents benefit the Rescue Goldens. Members who volunteer to
work at our facility must be at least 17 years old unless they are accompanied
by a parent or adult.
- Auction Committee
Serving on the Committee which organizes this annual Spring event. Time:
Five planning meetings from October to March, 3 hours each and 10 hours
working at the event. Soliciting of Auction donations is required, time
varies. All skills welcome.
- Calendar Marketing and Distribution
Enlisting businesses in your community to sell our calendar without
taking any profit for themselves. Time: 1-2 hours weekly in calendar
sales season. Skills: Persuasiveness and enthusiasm for YGRR.
- Data entry
Entering data (dog information, membership addresses, Golden owners,
etc.) at our facility in central Massachusetts. Time: Varies. Skills:
Ability to use Access or compatible data base programs.
- Development
Researching and writing grant proposals. Time: Flexible, depending on
foundation deadlines.
- Dog Walk Committee
Serving on the Committee which organizes this annual Autumn event. Time:
Three planning meetings from June to September, 3 hours each and 8 hours
working at the event. All skills welcome.
- Golden owner lists
Compiling lists of people who own Goldens (from municipal offices) and/or
entering the names and addresses on computer. Used for generating membership
and Golden Goodie mailing lists. Time: 1-3 hours at each town hall.
Skills: Willingness to help.
- Graphic design, desktop publishing, artistic, etc.
Creating flyers, advertisements, etc. Time: Varies. Skills: Ability
to create promotional and informational copy -- camera-ready or on disc.
- Home visits with prospective adopters throughout New England
Interviewing prospective adopters in their own homes to determine whether
a Golden is an appropriate dog for them and evaluate whether they will
provide a safe, loving and permanent home. Equipment: Golden or other
large, hairy dog to take along on visit (preferred). Time: 1-2 hours
per visit Skills: Ability to converse with strangers and complete standard
written home visit report.
- Landscaping and gardening at our facility in central Massachusetts
Working at Riverview creating and maintaining attractive and dog-friendly
grounds year 'round.
- Maintenance at at our facility in central Massachusetts
Working at Riverview on building maintenance and improvement, etc. Time:
4-5 hours each time, year 'round. Skills: Willingness to help, specialized
skills (painting, carpentry, plumbing) are welcome.
- Representing YGRR at Public Events
Staffing YGRR booths at pet fairs or pet supply stores. Time: 2-4 hours
each time. Skills: Ability to meet the public, answer questions about
Goldens and YGRR. (Written material provided.)
- Secretarial/Administrative
Working at our facility in central Massachusetts on computer, telephone,
filing dog records, etc. providing assistance to Adoption Coordinator.
Time: As needed, weekdays preferred.
- Transportation of Rescue Goldens within New England
Picking up Rescue Goldens at pounds or shelters (sometimes from their
owners) and driving them to one of YGRR's animal hospitals (NH or CT)
or from one of the hospitals to Riverview. Equipment: Vehicle with a
crate or dog barrier. Time: 1-4 hours each trip, depending on how far
you are willing to travel. Skills: Ability to handle unfamiliar dogs.
- Website Committee
Helping add new content and maintaining our site. HTML jockeys, Web
Designers, and Programmers with knowledge of CGI, Java, Perl and/or
VRML or other web experience are welcome. We particularly need help
with the creation of online forms and with getting our site registered
with search engines.

Many individuals express an interest in volunteering "hands-on"
with our dogs. At the present time, all our needs for dog walkers are
