The 23rd YGRR Benefit Auction was held on Sunday, June 12, at our headquarters in Hudson, MA. Approximately 200 attendees enjoyed a day of lively bidding in both the silent and live auctions, taking a tour, catching up with fellow Yankee friends, and seeing some of our Golden Retrievers awaiting a new home.

The weather could have been better–it was a bit chilly for a June day—but the pouring rain blessedly stayed away!

Sue Averill, our Kennel Manager, escorted into the Silent Auction five Rescue Goldens, each representing the five silent auction lots. The Goldens personally greeted the folks bidding on those items to encourage them to bid higher and higher.

Jim Morris, owner of Roasted Peppers in Maynard, MA catered the event, serving coffee & pastries in the morning and a variety of delicious gourmet sandwiches, drinks, chips, and salads for lunch. They were very organized and handled the crowd with ease. June's Bakeshop provided beautifully hand-decorated Golden Retriever cookies (for human consumption) that were a huge hit and sold like hotcakes! Next year we will make sure we have a lot more of those!

YGRR Auctioneer Robin Prouty did a superb job as our auctioneer for the 3rd year in a row. Robin’s enthusiasm and humor helped to encourage higher bids. One of the highlights was a bidding war for a beautiful set of 12 dinner plates with a hand-painted Golden on them. The winning bid was $3,900! There was also a 40” wall-mounted Sony TV that went for $1,200.

Many of the Silent Auction item bids were higher than their original value as well. It was good to see that folks were there to help raise a lot of money for the Goldens.

A big thank you to all who attended! Your dedication and devotion to YGRR is heartwarming, and we and the Goldens we serve very much appreciate you!
